This past week has been emotional, exhausting, and honestly, incredible. If you’ve ever fed a street dog, taken one for sterilisation, or just worried about how they’re treated in our cities - take a deep breath - we cleared the 1st hurdle!!!.

Delhi’s stray dogs just got the second chance they deserve.

The rollercoaster we didn't sign up for:

When the Supreme Court initially ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR be removed from the streets - permanently - many of us were devastated. It felt like years of community feeding, sterilisation work, and care were being erased overnight.

The idea that healthy, vaccinated dogs would be rounded up and locked away in overcrowded shelters, never to return to their homes - their streets - was heartbreaking. And honestly, it felt unfair. To the dogs. To us. To the science.

But something incredible happened.

We spoke up - and the system listened!!!

Thanks to petitions, protests, expert voices, and relentless advocacy by animal lovers, feeders, NGOs, lawyers, and everyday citizens, the Supreme Court revised its order. And the new direction is everything we hoped for:

  • Sterilised, vaccinated dogs can return to their original areas.

  • Only aggressive or unwell dogs will be housed in shelters.

  • The ABC (Animal Birth Control) model is back at the center of policy.

  • Delhi is now moving toward a structured, compassionate model of care.

This is proof that when we rally around what’s right -it works!!!!!

A new chapter begins and there’s a plan:

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is already acting on the revised order:

  • Over 65,000 dogs have been sterilised and vaccinated this year.

  • Feeding zones are being mapped to protect both animals and people.

  • Microchipping will soon help track who’s been treated and where.

  • New shelters will be built for dogs who truly can’t be returned.

  • A city-wide helpline is in the works for bites, cruelty, and rescue.

Yes, challenges remain. But for the first time in a long time, it feels like we’re not fighting this alone.

I’ve seen the same dog sleep outside the same shop for ten years. I’ve watched him grow old, get sterilised, wag his tail at every familiar face. He belongs there. And now, the law finally agrees.

This victory isn’t just legal. It’s deeply personal.

It’s for the feeders who get yelled at but show up anyway. It’s for the volunteers who’ve spent their weekends catching scared dogs for sterilisation. It’s for the kids who name every pup in their street. It’s for the dogs who have names, stories, and homes even if they don’t live inside four walls.

This isn’t the end. It’s just a better beginning. The goal now is to support the sterilisation drives, spread awareness, and hold our civic bodies accountable to do what they’ve promised.

But today - take a moment to feel this win.

For the first time in a long time, the system chose compassion. And that’s because we demanded it.

To every single person who stood up, spoke out, or quietly took care of a dog no one else noticed - thank you. You made this happen!!!!
